In the case of the board examinations, it is a must that you know the exam pattern inside out before kick starting the preparation. For every subject, you must know the marking scheme, the weightage given to different topics and prepare accordingly. Moreover, solving the previous year paper is important too.

Why give importance to exam pattern and previous year papers?

1. Exam Pattern gives you the complete information of marks and number of questions in the exam, the weightage that different topics carry.

2. The students can decide the time and priority that they give to the different topics.

3. Students get to understand the type of questions and how much time will it take for solving them.

4. By solving papers, they can improve their time management skills.

For class X biology does not come as a separate paper but is included in the science paper itself.

Question paper

Time: 3 Hours

Maximum. Marks: 90

The question paper is divided into two sections A and B

All the questions are compulsory and no choice is to provide.

Section A is divided into

Question numbers 1 to 3 that carry 1 marks – You need to answer them in one or two sentences.

Question numbers 4 to 6 that carry 2 marks – These are to be answered in 30 words each.

Question numbers 7 to 18 that carry three marks – you need to answer them in 50 words each.

Question numbers 19 to 24 – that carry  5 marks and need to be answered in 70.

Section B

It comprises of

Question numbers 25 to 33 that have multiple choice questions based on practical skills. Each carrying 1 marks.

Question numbers 34 to 36  that carry 2 marks each and are based on practical skills and need to be answered in brief.

Question Type

VSA – Very Short – 1 marks

SA1- Short answer – 2 marks

SA2 – Short answer – 3 marks

LA – Long answer – 5 marks

1. Knowledge-based simple recall questions, to know specific facts,terms, concepts, principles, or theories, Identify, define or recite, information)

2. Questions based on understanding – Which gauge the conceptual clarity of the student and ability to interpret, compare, contrast, explain, paraphrase

3. Application based questions  -Ability of the students to use the abstract information to derive concrete conclusions, apply knowledge to the given situation  and use the given data and convert it to information.

4. HOTS – High Order Thinking Skills – Gauges the ability of the student to analyze, classify, compare  etc.

5. Inferential and Evaluative – test their decisive skills and decide or predict the outcome of the given set of data.

Note – According to CBSE – The  Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is the average of Grade Points obtained in all the subjects excluding 6th additional subject as per Scheme of Studies.
