The reasons for the Muslim League's acceptance and later rejection of the Cabinet Mission Plan. 

The League had accepted the Plan because it felt that grouping of Muslim - majority provinces in a way meant the formation of Pakistan.  

i. Elections to the Constituent Assembly were held in July 1946. The League could win only 73 seats. It feared that it would be over dominated by the Congress. 

ii. It also feared that the British withdrawal from India would mean transfer of power  to Hindus.

The Proposal of Cabinet Mission were accepted by the Congress with some reservations. It suggested that grouping of province should be optional but not compulsory. The Congress rejected the scheme of Interim powers of status. It also had objection of parity with the Muslim League.
