The Indian Museum is the earliest and the largest multipurpose Museum in India and also in the Asia-Pacific region of the world.


It was founded in 1814 and located in the present building of the Asiatic Society, 1 Park Street, Kolkata. 


The foundation of the Museum started a museum movement in India and today there're more than 400 museums in the country. 


It is home to some of the prized collection such as Egyptian Mummy, the ashes of the Buddha and the Ashoka Pillar.
