How does Job recuritment take place through the 'contractor system'?
In the past, many workers got their jobs through contractors or jobbers. These jobbers were also called as mistris and were themselves workers.
The contractor system is most visible in the hiring of casual labour for work on construction sites, brickyards and so on.
The contractor goes to villages and asks if people want work. They promise to loan them some money. This loan includes the cost of transport of the workside.
The contractors came from the same areas and communities as the workers, as they had the owner's support they bossed over the workers.
