The sum of present age of father and his son is 60 yrs. Six years ago, father's age was five times the age of the son. After 6 years, son's age will be?

  • 45

  • 25

  • 20

  • 33

C.

20

Suppose, the present age of son be x years.
And, the present age of father = y
According to question,
x + y = 60 (i)
x = 60-y

6 years ago
5(x-6) = y -6
5x - 30 = y - 6
5x - y = 30-6 = 24 (ii)
After putting the value of x in equation (ii), we get:
5(60-y) - y = 24
300 - 5y - y = 24
300-6y = 24
6y = 300-24
y = 276/6 = 46 years
x = 60-46 = 14 years
After 6 years, the age of x
= (14+6) years
= 20 years
