Satpura Wildlife Tiger Reserve was developed to ensure the survival and maintenance of the tiger population in the country.

Deforestation is done duee to the following causes :

(i) Due to the increased demand of wood and timber.

(ii) Due to the increased demand of land for constructing factories, houses, roads and dams.

Deforestation causes major changes in soil properties. Less vegetation leads to soil erosion. The top layer of the soil gets exposed and the humus and nutrients are removed. Deforestation also reduces water holding capacity of soil and nutrients are also drained off. Soil becomes dry and looses its fertility. Loose soil gets converted into sand and a fertile land, may be converted into a desert. 

The conversion of fertile land into desert is called desertification. Deforestation changes the physical properties. It causes soil erosion. Removal of top layer of soil exposes the lower, hard and rock layers. This soil has less human and is less fertile. Gradually the fertile land gets converted into deserts.
