The frequency of the transverse vibration is given by,

is the length of the vibrating string,
T is the tension in the string
m is the mass per unit length of the string
Therefore, the frequency of transverse vibration of a stretched string can be increased by,
i) decreasing the length of the string,
ii) decreasing the radius of the string,
iii) increasing the tension T in the string.
