Define the terms magnet and magnetism.

Magnetism is the property of a material produced, by the motion of electric charge resulting in  attraction and repulsion between objects.

Magnets are the substances with magnetic properties so as to attract small pieces of iron, nickel, cobalt ets.

A bar magnet falls vertically through a magnet. Its acceleration is
  • less than g

  • more than g

  • equal to g

  • zero

What is the force acting on a charge moving along the direction of the magnetic field?

A bar magnet is moved along the axis of a copper ring placed far away from the magnet. Looking from the side of the magnet an anticlockwise current is found to be induced in the ring. In this situation

  • the S-pole faces the ring and the magnet moves towards it
  • the N-pole faces the ring and the magnet moves towards it

  • the S-pole faces the ring and the magnet moves away from it

  • the N-pole faces the ring and the magnet moves away from it.
