A rational individual clearly knows what is good or what is bad for him, and in any given situation, He always tries to achieve the best for himself. i.e. A rational consumer always chooses her most preferred bundle from the budget set. The consumer’s optimum bundle is located at the point of tangency between the budget line and an indifference curve.
