Blood is a connective tissue which has the following components:
i. Plasma – The fluid component of the blood.
ii. RBC – Red blood cells also called erythrocytes. Biconcave cells that are devoid of mitochondria. They have the red pigment haemoglobin which helps in the transport of respiratory gases mainly oxygen.
iii. WBC – White blood cells. These cells provide immunity against various disease-causing germs entering the body and provide immunity.
iv. Platelets – Also called thrombocytes. These are nucleated cells that play a major role in the coagulation of blood.
