a. The Indira Gandhi Canal originates from Harika Barage near the confluence of the Satluj and the Beas rivers in Ferozepur district of Punjab. Nearly 4.79 lakh hectares of land is provided with flow irrigation and 0.46 lakh hectares get lift irrigation.
b. Negative impacts:
i. The canal water soaks into the ground and leads to the problem of water logging along the canal route.
ii. The marshy areas near the canal act as breeding grounds of mosquitoes which results in wide spread of malaria.
