The sum of the squares of two consecutive odd numbers is 394. Find the numbers.
Let two consecutive odd numbers are (2n – 1) and (2n + 1).Then
When n = 7, then two consecutive odd numbers are: 2 x 7 – 1 = 13 and 2 x 7 + 1 = 15 i.e., 13 and 15 Ans. When n = –7, then two consecutive odd numbers are: 2 x (–7) – 1 = –15 and 2 x (–7) + 1 = –13 i.e., –15 and –13 Ans.
