Kobasa have shown that people with high levels of stress but low levels of illness share three characteristics, which are referred to as the personality traits of hardiness. It consists of ‘the three Cs’.

Hardiness is a set of beliefs about oneself,the world, and how they interact.This interaction is ingrained in the feeling of personal commitment to what one is doing, a sense of control over one's life and to be able to meet the life challenges.

Stress resistant persanalities have a purpose in life and are sure of their actions, they show commitment to work, family, hobbies and their social life.Thus, they are able to strike the right balance in life.They take up life as a challenge and are not overwhelmed by challenges.

They think of changes as a part and parcel of life and view changes from a higer ground as being necessary and normal and view every change as window opportunity.
