The Rhodopsin pigment is a derivative of Vitamin A. Due to the deficiency of vitamin A, the synthesis of visual pigment rhodopsin does not take place. Thus there is deficiency of rhodopsin. The rod cells become inactive which disables a person's night vision and results in the disease called night blindness.
