Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)

The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), is an expandable launch system developed and operated by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

PSLV was designed and developed in the early 1990s at Vikram Sarabhai Space centre near Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. PSLV was first launched on 20 September 1993. 

PSLV continues to support Indian and Foreign satellite launches, especially for Low Earth Orbit (Low) satellite. 

Recently, ISRO successfully launched eight satellites into two different orbits for the first time, in the longest mission undertaken by ISRO so far. PSLV used ‘multiple burn technology’ to achieve multi-orbit satellite launch in the mission. 

The satellites launched included SCATSAT-1 will be used for studies related to ocean and weather.
