Suraj Kumar 4

In today’s cutthroat competition, everyone is running after high grades and percentages. Everyone wants to be on the top of the list. And in this rat race, the most common myth plaguing students is that grades are directly proportional to the hours of studying. Students think that if they devote whooping 18 hours to study they will reach the 90 marks. Average students are advised to put in more and more hours studying to get good grades. But, are long hours the only way to achieve success? Contrary to this popular belief, the answer is ‘No’. It’s because each one of us is wired differently. When you consider the old adage – One size does not fit all, in case of studies.

NCERT BOOK

Being average or not so good in studies does not mean that you have to drown yourself in the sea of books. Neither do you have to spend 24*7 with books in your hands. All you need to do is study smart. Here are some ways how you can study less and score more.

Cover the important topics first. – It is nearly impossible for one to learn everything within one academic year. So, instead of trying to cover the whole syllabus try focusing on the important topics. Cover the major things first. Doing this will boost up your confidence. Make a point to make notes, this not only helps you to understand the topic clearly but also etches the information into your brain. Moreover, these brief notes will be a great source of help during the exams when the time is less.

Concentrate- Sitting with books all day with your mind wandering somewhere else is nothing but a sheer waste of energy and time. Concentrate on what you are studying. A study for one hour with full concentration is much more fruitful than 4 hours without concentration. So next time you sit down to study make sure that you are free from any distractions.

Avoid rote review – Rather than mugging up everything try to understand the topic. Understanding will make your concept crystal clear. If you understand the topic well you will never have difficulty in remembering it. If you adopt the method of rote learning, then you will just remember just the tits and bits of it and not the whole information. For example, if you have a problem with the NCERT questions, try looking up the notes or the online NCERT textbook solutions that give a good explanation. Try understanding the answers and the concepts.

Make a schedule– plan your study hours and make a routine. Make it a point to stick to the routine. You need not have an outrageous number of hours for studies. Make realistic goals that you can achieve. Devoting every possible waking hour to studies will not budge your grade,

Take breaks – Monotony of tasks never helps. If you keep on studying for hours and hours, it will prove to be tiring for both your body and mind. Take breaks in between the study hours and refresh yourself before diving into the piles of books.

At the end, we would like to say ‘Stay calm and Study Smart
