Birla Planetarium situated in Kolkata, West Bengal, is the largest planetarium in Asia, and the second largest in the world.
Famously known as taramandal , is a single-storeyed circular structure designed in the typical Indian style, whose architecture is vaguely modelled on the Buddhist Stupa at Sanchi.
It was inaugurated on 2 July 1963, by Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.
