Manipur’s Cottage Industry

Manipur's cottage industry holds much promise and tiny village based units that are critical to provide employment.


Manipur was the first state to introduce Oak Tussar Industry. (Sericulture) 


Handloom weaving is the biggest industry in Manipur and  accounts for one-third of household workers.


Other industries include bamboo and cane articles, rice mills, edible oil crushing and leather goods.


The main agricultural products of Manipur are Paddy, wheat and maize. 


The Ema Bazaar is one of India's largest markets run by women.


This market primarily sells handloom and handicraft products such as earthen pots, knives, shawls and puppets, besides all kinds of dried fish and vegetables.
